BIO
Darren Piper aka Optikz, Australian-born rapper, singer, songwriter turned mental health advocate and entrepreneur has transformed his life from one overshadowed by complex childhood trauma, addiction, and health struggles into a beacon of hope and healing through music. Beginning his journey in the late 90s, early 2000s in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, after moving from Cairns, Queensland, he found solace and identity in hip-hop culture, despite a debilitating injury that dashed his skateboarding dreams. His early career was marked by joining the rap group RCR, releasing solo projects, and winning several contests, which led to opening for renowned artists and the release of notable singles and albums that garnered significant attention.
Throughout his rise in the music industry, Optikz battled with deep-seated mental health issues stemming from complex childhood trauma and turned to substance abuse as a coping mechanism. His path to recovery, fueled by detox, rehab, therapy, and a nurturing spirituality, redirected his life and artistry towards healing and self-discovery. This transformative journey inspired a new direction in his music, emphasizing raw, honest reflections of his experiences paired with messages of hope and resilience.
Now working from the prestigious METALWORKS STUDIOS, Optikz is focused on creating music that not only reflects his journey of recovery but also aims to inspire and support others facing similar challenges. His latest work, including singles like "Love the Child in Me", symbolizes his commitment to using his talents to create music with substance that connects with people on a heart level, embodying his belief in the power of music as a vehicle for personal transformation and healing.
